The Electric Atmosphere of UWTSD's End of Year Architecture Show
The End of Year Show at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) School of Architecture was more than just an exhibition; it’s a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the future of architecture. This year, I had the pleasure of showcasing my work and engaging with future architects, making the experience particularly memorable.
The studio was filled with models and drawings bursting with creative diversity, showcasing independent student work that allowed each to make their personal stamp on their projects. Each piece told a story of hard work, creativity, and dedication.
A highlight for me was discussing my work with recycled glass and meeting again the students I gave a guest lecture to in their first year. I showcased the glass tiles recently installed as cladding in Cornwall and demonstrated how sustainable building practices is happening in the real live project. Engaging with students about this tile was incredibly rewarding; their curiosity and enthusiasm sparked insightful conversations about the future of sustainable architecture.
Adding to the event’s prestige, the President Dan Benham from Royal Society of Architects in Wales attended, and the show was sponsored by Rockwool. Having industry leaders including the Vice Chancellor, the Provost and Director of Research at the opening made the event even more significant and inspiring.
The event also highlighted the close collaboration between Environmental Conservation, Sustainability and Climate Change programme. The Architecture course tackles real-world issues with innovative solutions, from eco-friendly urban designs to adaptive reuse, emphasizing sustainability and responsible building practices.
Reflecting on the event, I am filled with pride and optimism. The future of architecture is in good hands, guided by talented and passionate lectures and staff such as Ian Standen, Paul Harries, Ryan Stuckey and Lara Hopkinson dedicated to sustainability and innovation. The buzzing atmosphere was a testament to their hard work and creativity, making it an unforgettable experience for all who attended.
